welcome to greenacres

quality self catering holiday cottage and luxury glamping on the edge of the Peak District and near to Alton Towers

Come and stay at Greenacres in The Barn, our newly refurbished two bedroom holiday cottage. Or choose our luxury glamping option, The Parlour, a Blackdown Shepherd Hut. Both are located here at Greenacres; on the edge of the Peak District and near to Alton Towers in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands.

We’re Tessa and David, and we live in Tessa’s family’s farmhouse set in the middle of 11 acres of organic pasture on the edge of the small country village of Denstone, Staffordshire. Tessa’s family has farmed here at Greenacres for over 150 years. Alton Towers is only 10 minutes from here by car and we’re close to Ashbourne and Leek, which both sit on the southern edge of the Peak District. It’s a short walk to Denstone village and a cosy pub which serves good food.

Greenacres is ideal for walkers, cyclists, nature-lovers, and a lovely place to just relax. Or, for the thrill seeking, Alton Towers is only a few minutes away. Come and stay with us, we would love to welcome you here!

our two retreats

the barn

Spacious and recently-refurbished two bedroom self catering barn conversion. With outside BBQ and acres of countryside. Ideal for couples and families of four.

the parlour

Blackdown Shepherd Hut fully self contained with log burner, kitchen, full size double bed and ensuite bathroom. Complete with outdoor furniture and BBQ.

Staffordshire Moorlands and the Peak District

We are lucky enough to be in the centre of some of England’s finest countryside. The wild Peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands are right on our doorstep, ideal for walkers and cyclists. There are two long distance paths within walking distance, and the Tissington Trail starts in Ashbourne, 15 minutes away.

If you would like something a little more sedate, the great country houses of Calke Abbey and Chatsworth are close by. Or would you prefer to explore the 700 years of history of Mary and St Barlok Church, Norbury with its extraordinary medieval stained glass and carved tombs? There’s also the fascinating heritage of the Potteries too, as well as the canal network that spans the area.

Real thrill-seekers will head straight for Alton Towers of course – Smiler, Oblivion, Nemesis, and the brand new Wickerman!

We really enjoyed our second stay at this great cottage. Walking straight from your doorstep and easy access to the Peaks. Lovely accommodation and fabulous hosts. We will be back!

Fantastic stay in a beautiful area with so many great walks. Lovely to come back to a wonderful, comfortable cottage at the end of an exhausting day although we still haven’t worn out Ebony the cocker spaniel!

The Parlour is well designed with lovely decoration and everything you need for a comfortable stay, we particularly enjoyed using the firepit and the log burning stove. It is a quiet location with views across fields of grazing cows. The Parlour is perfectly situated for day trips to the Peak District and also has access to great local walks as well as a very nice farm shop just down the road.

We had a wonderful stay at The Parlour. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. Very professional approach to making sure everything was safe during covid. The shepherds hut was cosy, spotless and extremely peaceful, we couldn’t recommend this place more!
